Are your working conditions fair? Stories seem to filter out from month to month about under par working conditions for Working Holiday Makers ( WHMs) . Especially when it comes to farm work, many WHMs leaving their run late to do the 88 days, this can lead to situations where living and working in unsatisfactory conditions are the only way to get the 88 days done in time.
ABC Ballarat reported a story last week where “ Colin” (not his real name) spoke about the voluntary wwoofing working conditions he experienced, the deal was to complete the work for free in order to get his 88 days signed off. Below are some of Colins experiences,
“”I woke up one morning with water dripping on my head and my feet, and there was mould all over the mattresses.”
When Colin complained about the mouldy mattress, the farmer exchanged it for the mattress his dog slept on. “
When Colin left, he says the farmer would only sign off on 30 days, rather than the 44 days worth of work they had done, as reported by ABC Ballarat.
There’s obviously many more stories that don’t make the news, have you had a bad experiences or have heard of worst conditions than this.
