The Melbourne International Comedy Festival will celebrate its 29th year in 2015 and is one of the three largest comedy festivals in the world, alongside Edinburgh Festival Fringe and Montreal’s Just for Laughs Festival.
The Festival was launched in 1987 by Barry Humphries and Peter Cook. Twenty-eight festivals later, with attendances of over 630,000, it has grown to be Australia’s largest cultural event – selling more tickets than any other Australian Festival.

The Melbourne International Comedy Festival really takes over the city with shows around the CBD and outer locations.
With major hubs at Melbourne Town Hall, Trades Hall, ACMI, Greek Centre and Arts Centre Melbourne – you’re never far from the lols.
When?
Runs from March 25 to April 19.
How much?
The festival has a range of free events including the Big Laugh Out ( There’s free shows on from Friday the 27th of March to April 16) and a range of ticketed shows staring at just $10. Affordable for working holiday visa holders and international students.
Big Names
Home grown favourites Will Anderson, Dave Huges, Kitty Flanagan, Adam Hills, Judith Lucy, Joel Creasey, Tommy Little, Fiona O’Loughlin and more are joined by festival favourite visitors including Arj Barker, Stephen K Amos, Jason Byrne, Milton Jones, Nina Conti and Rich Hall.
International Acts
There’s no shortage of international acts with 108 of them to entertain Melbourne audiences. Two lucky working holiday jobs members will win tickets to see Alex Edelman on Tuesday the 31st of March.
